What a TMS is: managing a bank’s terminal fleet remotely

What a terminal management system (TMS) does: remote updates, configuration, monitoring and security. Benefits for banks and payment providers, and the rollout stages.

A technician can update a hundred terminals by visiting them. Not five thousand. A TMS (Terminal Management System) exists for exactly that scale: the whole terminal fleet of a bank or payment provider is configured, updated and monitored from one centre.

What a TMS does

  • Remote updates. The payment application, parameters and keys are pushed over the air; the device updates overnight and works in the morning.
  • Configuration groups. Restaurant terminals with a tipping screen, shop terminals without: parameters are set per group.
  • Monitoring. Which terminal is online, which battery is low, where transactions fail: all of it lands on a dashboard.
  • Security. Remote blocking of a suspicious device, certificate renewal, control over the list of installed apps.
  • Reporting. Inventory by model, software version and location; an audit-ready list.

Benefits for the bank

The biggest saving is in site visits: nobody drives out for updates and configuration. The second is speed: a new tariff, a new payment scheme or a new screen design reaches the whole fleet overnight. The third is compliance: PCI requirements demand control of software versions, and a TMS automates that.

Rollout stages

  1. Inventory. Models, versions, locations: the list is verified before migration to the TMS.
  2. Pilot group. 50 or 100 terminals in one region; update, rollback and monitoring scenarios are tested.
  3. Policies. Update windows, mandatory versions, blocking rules.
  4. Integration. Links to processing, service desk and warehouse systems: a fault ticket opens automatically.
  5. Full migration. Region by region, then the whole fleet.

TOPWISE TMS

TOPWISE offers a TMS platform for its own terminals; it works with the T6 family, PIN pads and unattended POS. Software and hardware compatibility is confirmed for the selected model and project requirements. Contact us to discuss a scenario for the size of your fleet.

Frequently asked questions

Which terminals does the TMS work with?

TOPWISE TMS is designed for TOPWISE terminals. Compatibility of specific models and software versions is confirmed per project.

Does a TMS replace the bank’s processing?

No. The TMS manages devices (updates, configuration, monitoring); transactions still go through the processing centre.

Is the TMS cloud-hosted or on the bank’s servers?

Both options are possible; banks usually prefer their own infrastructure. This is confirmed per project.
